New York, New York!
Sunday, August 31st, 2008I thought I’d better get our August trip in before August was over! We had a short trip to New York City this month. It’s only the second time I have been there, although my hubby has been there at least once more than I have. I was worried about him driving in the city, but he’s got it down pat–no problems at all. At one point we were driving from lower Manhattan to Upper Manhattan and our GPS wanted us to turn the wrong way on every one-way street that we came across. We couldn’t figure out why our GPS maps didn’t know the one way streets. I finally figured it out when we were headed home. The GPS asked if we wanted to stay in pedestrian mode. Ha, ha! I had forgotten that I had put it into pedestrian mode after we arrived and were looked for places to eat. I’ll try and remember to switch it back next time I put it in pedestrian mode!
We stayed at the Millennium Hilton, right across the street from the WTC site. They are finally starting to rebuild and are working on Freedom Tower (in the upper right corner of the block in the photo). It’s the second time we’ve been at the site, and you can’t help but be affected by the memory of what happened there on 9-11-01.
We were on the 53rd floor and had a wonderful view. We did a lot of walking in lower Manhattan and midtown. Everyone we came in contact with was very nice. It made me wonder what happened to the “typical New Yorker” attitude. We didn’t see it anywhere, and had a wonderful visit.
